I am from NZ so I planned to take Mikey home to meet his Kiwi family as soon as he was fully vaccinated. We ended up booking a trip when he was 3 1/2 months old. As we weren’t in the best financial position my husband needed to stay and work so it was just Mikey and I.
Mikey was an absolute dream on the plane both on the way over and on our return home. We booked a seat with a bassinet, it was luck of the draw with the bassinet but he was the only little baby on the flight so we had one. The bassinet was great and allowed me to put him down for a sleep without having to hold him for 6 1/2 hours. The flight attendees on Air NZ were helpful although I only asked them to watch him sleep while I ran to the bathroom and one of them held him while I got our bags down to disembark.

I was worried Mikey’s sleeping would be affected when we arrived but he slept really well the first night. We had a couple of rough weeks at the start but he was great for the rest of the 5 week trip.
We stayed in 3 different locations visiting friends and family. It was Mikey’s first time in a portacot and he has his first long car trip which was 5 hours. Overall he was an angel and we had such a great time.
Traveling was pretty easy with Mikey, he was young so we didn’t need to take too much to entertain him. We kept up with his physio and our therapist always said being handled a lot by different people is good for him. I am so glad we went because it was good therapy for me to spend time with friends and family, I REALLY needed it. It was also so wonderful for Mikey to spend lots of quality time with his nanni (my mum).
